Shield Our Heroes

Shield is a support group tailored specifically for first responders, led by Jay Hollingshed, a seasoned life coach, former firefighter, and Master of Social Work (MSW) student.

Here's an overview of what this support group offers:

  • Holistic Approach: Jay's approach to supporting first responders is holistic, addressing not only the challenges they face in their professional lives but also their personal well-being. He integrates his experiences as a firefighter, his expertise as a life coach, and his training as a social worker to provide comprehensive support.

  • Safe and Empathetic Environment: The Frontline Resilience Circle meets in a safe and empathetic environment, where confidentiality is prioritized, and members feel comfortable sharing their experiences and emotions openly. Jay fosters a non-judgmental atmosphere where everyone's voice is valued and respected.

  • Personalized Support: Recognizing that each first responder's journey is unique, Jay offers personalized support tailored to the individual needs of the group members. Whether it's coping with trauma, managing stress, or enhancing resilience, he works closely with each participant to develop strategies for growth and healing.

  • Combining Coaching and Counseling: Jay seamlessly integrates coaching techniques with counseling approaches, drawing on his diverse background to provide a multifaceted support system. He empowers first responders to set goals, overcome obstacles, and tap into their inner strengths while also addressing deeper emotional issues and trauma.

  • Building Resilience: A core focus of the Frontline Resilience Circle is on building resilience among first responders. Jay leads discussions and activities aimed at fostering resilience skills such as mindfulness, self-care, emotional regulation, and positive coping strategies. Through shared experiences and mutual support, group members learn to navigate the challenges of their profession with greater strength and resilience.

  • Community and Connection: Beyond providing support on an individual level, Jay cultivates a sense of community and connection within the group. Group members bond over their shared experiences and form meaningful relationships built on trust, understanding, and solidarity. Regular group activities, outings, and social events further strengthen this sense of community.

  • Empowerment and Advocacy: Jay empowers first responders to take charge of their mental health and well-being, providing them with resources, tools, and skills to advocate for themselves and others. He encourages active participation in mental health initiatives, peer support networks, and community outreach efforts to promote greater awareness and support for first responders' mental health needs.

Overall, Jay Hollingshed's group serves as a beacon of support, empowerment, and resilience for first responders, helping them navigate the challenges of their profession and thrive both personally and professionally.
